It’s amazing what just one game can do to the confidence.

Going into the game against Southend United, the Hatters support were a little downbeat. Their foray into League One football hadn’t gotten off to the best of starts with just one point taken out of the first nine available.

Whisper it quietly but that’s relegation form.

However, after a deserved 2-0 win, the Hatters have climbed out of the relegation places and are sitting, comfortably, in mid-table.

With a home game against Shrewsbury Town this weekend, a win could easily see the Hatters zoom up towards the play-off places, a far more respectable position for such an ambitious club.

The victory against Southend was achieved with an early goal from Elliot Lee and a penalty, just past the half-hour mark, by Danny Hylton.

Although the possession statistics show the game was close, we should point out that Southend did not have a single shot on target throughout the ninety minutes.

Now, the Hatters have to take this form forward and ensure it becomes two wins on the bounce when they play Shrewsbury Town in another home fixture this weekend.

Onwards and upwards.
