Has One Image Ruined Nathan Jones Chances Of Ever Returning To Manage Luton Town Again?

With no sign of a resumption of the EFL season, the number one topic of conversation among the Hatters fraternity is, currently, who’ll succeed Graeme Jones as the manager of the club.

After axing Graeme Jones, it appeared that the appointment of an immediate successor was not high on the clubs’ agenda with Mick Harford being asked to look after matters, once again, in a liaison role.

However, that hasn’t stopped our friends, the bookmakers, from suggesting who might be the next incumbent with, as we’ve already mentioned, Nathan Jones, remaining the current favourite, as can be seen from the freebetting.co.uk site, who list the candidates as follows:

• 4/9 – Nathan Jones
• 8/1 – Stephen Robinson
• 10/1 – Mick Harford
• 12/1 – Steve Rutter
• 14/1 – Michael Flynn
• 16/1 – Paul Heckingbottom
• 20/1 – Michael Duff
• 20/1 – Paul Hurst
• 20/1 – Micky Mellon

Our poll still errs towards Nathan being given the job, but it is still very close.

But it has become apparent, over the last twenty-four hours, that several Luton supporters would be far from happy with the re-appointment of Nathan.

This unhappiness stems from when Nathan won the Manager of the Month award for his achievements at Kenilworth Road but collected the award adorning Stoke City kit, as can be seen in the link – The Stoke Sentinel.

It was a moment that prompted responses, in our comment facility, such as:

“The picture of Jones in a Stoke shirt with his manager of the month award, he won at Luton, still makes my stomach turn. No way for NJ.”

And

“Jones (Nathan) has burnt his bridges in my mind, the manner in his departure, the acceptance of his manager of the month award in his Stoke kit hurt.”

Has that one moment of, apparent, madness ruined any chance of the Hatters support accepting the possible re-appointment of Nathan Jones?

Or is it the time to let bygones be bygones?

Once again, your thoughts on the subject matter would be most welcome in the comment facility beneath this article.

As I said before, it was a slap in the face for all Hatters – for anyone who loves this club. Even so, I’d have him back if 2020 thought it was the way to go. An apology wouldn’t be a bad idea. And a few more Manager of the Month awards – this time in the right gear! – might help.

Hi all much rather have nj than clueless gj any day.

Hi all, I don’t know if anyone from 2020 or supporters trust view this site. And would it influence them anyway. It seems to me that the owners are totally committed to saving this club an building it up again. After decades of dodgy ownership. We all know who they were. I think us fans have to support the choice they make. It’s the least they deserve. We know now gj wasn’t up to it but even though I said before the season he was a mistake I could have been totally wrong. And he could have been a revelation. So let’s just see what happens

Plenty of West Bromwich Albion supporters warned us he was the wrong choice as well I seem to remember.

  • One-T says:

At the end of the day, he took advantage of an opportunity that anyone would have taken in their line of work.

The MOTM picture was a terrible error in judgement and i would hope he regrets it.

He got us playing fantastic football. Gave the club a feeling i hadn’t felt since our last journey to the Championship under Newell. We know what he is capable of and its exactly what we need. Give him another chance because he knows the grass isn’t greener!

The whole chest pumping egotistic routine wouldn’t work a 2nd time around, foxtrot oscar Nathan.

    • Alan says:

Chest pump as much as he wants, as long as he gets us results. He showed more passion than gj ever did. Also nj would never ignore fans after a game, no matter what the result. Wouldn’t be against him coming back, but my favoured choice would still be to finish season with big mick & sheehan back as assistant, then see where we are..

Really difficult to get off the fence on this one. He must have chosen to wear the Stoke top – in case, I suppose, anyone hadn’t realized he’d moved on and, as he presumably saw it, upwards. ‘Look how clever I am!’ in other words. But I think, in the end, I’d rather have the known quantity of Nathan Jones, a face we know will fit, than another unpredictable. The question is whether 2020 will think the same.

Will never forgive Snake for way he left club, from the day at Hillsborough when true fans knew he was off somewhere better to when he wore the Stoke shirt for MAnager of month award. Have already renewed my season ticket but would have held off if had any idea he would be within 100 miles of our club
Can not believe Sweet could forgive him either. Go for Brown Hughton or Adkins if want experience or give Evatt or Duff a chance

Is NJ good enough at this level? He was great at 2nd and 1st division levels. At Stoke, he had 36 games and considerable transfer funds, and could not turn it around. I would prefer to see someone who has proved himself in the Championship.
