Word has reached us that a member of our promotion winning side of 1973 / 1974 has passed away.

Sadly, one of our site regulars has passed on the news that Alan Garner passed away last night.

Garner arrived at Kenilworth Road in 1971, joining the Hatters from Millwall.

Alan played a major part as Luton achieved promotion from Division Two to Division One.

The cultured defender remained a key part of the Hatters side that fought unsuccessfully to remain in the top-flight of English football.

Unfortunately, the decision was made to sell Alan following the Hatters relegation with the defender joining Watford, for who he made in excess of 200 League appearances.

The last we heard of Alan he was working at the local airport and his passing away comes as a great shock to us all.

RIP Alan, a fine servant and someone who will always remain a part of our history.
