Carlisle 1 Luton 1 – Match Stats and Report

The idea, following the final whistle, at Brunton Park, was that I’d find somewhere quiet, just south of Carlisle, to pen the match report.

But, as is so often the case when it comes to best-laid plans they went awry once news filtered through from down south that Exeter City had failed to win their fixture and following Luton’s 1-1 draw, the Hatters were promoted.

So, instead of penning the report, the search was on to find an off-licence, fill the car up with tins and then make the journey home.

This morning, as you can imagine, my head hurts but it’s a pleasurable pain, a pain that brings a smile to my face when I recall the events of the last twenty-four hours.

From what I can remember, the game wasn’t the best of games, Luton struggled to impose their style of play on their hosts and fell a goal behind, in the 13th minute, when Shea conceded a penalty and Grainger stepped up to give Carlisle the lead.

The travelling Hatters support roared their team on and were euphoric when Ollie Lee as on hand to slam home the equaliser, in the 62nd minute.

From then on, it was a case of working out all the permutations, hoping the Hatters could hang on and then waiting for that final whistle.

When it came, the scenes that occurred were of the kind that you’ll never forget.

The Hatters were promoted and the noise from our part of the ground let all those in Cumbria know.

Up the Hatters!
