We’re a matter of days, nay hours, away from the start of the 2018 / 2019 season.

The excitement levels are building as the Hatters travelling army prepare to make the trip to the south coast to take on Portsmouth in our first League One fixture of the season.

After a reasonable pre-season campaign, this game really is the acid test.

However, with the departure of Scott Cuthbert, Nathan Jones has had to decide who the new club captain should be.

The news source, Luton Today, is reporting that the gaffer has chosen Alan Sheehan to fulfil that vital role.

Sheehan was, as you may or may not know, Nathan Jones first signing when he took over the managerial hot-seat at Kenilworth Road.

Since joining Luton Town, Sheehan has made 107 appearances and has scored 7 goals.

But, as you’d expect, it is his leadership qualities that have seen Jones hand him the responsibility of being the new club captain, with Jones quoted by our referenced source as having remarked about the player,

“He’s the one that controls my dressing room and looks after people.”

Or, to put it another way, a natural born leader.

Here at Vital Luton Town, we fully support the appointment of Alan Sheehan as our new club captain and we wish him well in his new role, these are exciting times for the club as they seek to hone in on a possible Championship place in the next couple of seasons. Sheehan has proven his worth to the team and we look forward to watching how he instruct, cajoles and inspires those around him on the field of play.

But, whilst it is a decision that gets our wholehearted backing, is it a decision you concur with?
