An Early Goal Costs Luton Dearly At Brentford

Last night, at the Brentford Community Stadium, the Hatters slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

The defeat came courtesy of conceding an early goal, something that has plagued Luton Town this season.

But all credit to the lads, after they had weathered the opening 30-minute storm by our hosts, the Hatters came back into the game and on other occasions, if Lady Luck were smiling, could well have gotten something from the game.

If you are looking towards signs of improvement, then this result, against promotion chasing Brentford, offers a lot of hope.

After all, you only have to take a look at our two previous results against the West London side.

The last time we played them on their patch we were routed 7-0 and earlier this season they came to Kenilworth Road and beat us 3-0.

There is also the small matter of Luton having lost their last 7 league games, in London, to contemplate.

Did those statistics play a part in our pre-match poll where only 22% predicted a Luton win, with 47% predicting a Brentford win and the remaining 31% opting for a draw?

So, on the basis of the above facts and figures, I reckon things are certainly on the up.

Something this social media post also points out:

Talking to the media afterwards and as reported by The BBC, Nathan Jones had this to say about the poor start his side made, remarking:

“In the first half, we allowed Brentford to do what Brentford do well. I’m disappointed with that. Second half, I thought we were excellent, got the ball into great areas and had enough chances to have got something from the game.โ€

Like I said earlier, we could have.

But, once again we did not and continuing to talk to the media, Nathan further remarked:

“Barring a little bit of quality in the final third, we would have got something from the game and I can’t ask any more from them.”

Which brings us quite nicely back to our season-long argument, the lack of a decent striker to support James Collins.

Are Nathanโ€™s words a little dig at the board for assistance?
